nnCron lite misses times

Postby gordod » Tue, 06 Jun 2006, 23:32

I have an issue with nnCron lite (Great prog, btw). I have a task setup to go run a script every 5 minutes, and it appears that sometimes the service does not initiate the task. I have reset everything and right now I am just running a batch file every 5 minutes that writes to a log file. Sometimes it will just miss one cycle, sometimes it will not run for several. Here is a snippet of the testlog file:

Everything is local to this machine (batch file, log, etc). It is running as a service with an account that has local admin privs. Note that it does not run the batch file from 1:00 and 1:05. Also, here is a snip from the actual cron.log:
12:50:00 612 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
12:50:00 612 Start result: 0
12:55:00 540 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
12:55:00 540 Start result: 0
13:10:00 1940 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
13:10:00 1940 Start result: 0
13:15:00 1992 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
13:15:00 1992 Start result: 0

Any ideas as to why it would miss several times?

Also, I cannot use the missed tasks function because, ultimately, cron will call a script with is in itself a scheduler file.

Thanks.

Currently there are no ideas. I think you should give us more info: your OS, nnCron LITE version and build, the contents of your cron.tab and cron.out etc...

BTW, maybe you set nnCron LITE to run tasks as currently logged user and there are times when no one is logged on your machine? Somethin like this?

Thanks for the prompt reply. Here are some additional details.
OS=Windows server 2003 SP1
nnCron Lite version=1.17.119 release

Cron.tab=
#CRONTAB FILE
# Classic crontab format:
# Minutes Hours Days Months WeekDays Command

#*/15 8-16 * * 1-5 checkmail.exe
0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"

cron.out=
nnCron LITE. v 1.17 Build 119 09.06.2005
Copyright (C) 2000-2006 nnSoft. e-mail:nemtsev@nncron.ru

And when I checked this morning, I see two instances where cron did not run for a period of time.

I am running cron with logged on user=Off and with the service set as a user with administrative rights.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

ah... I forget to ask you to show the contents of cron.log!

does the problem persists when you start nnCron LITE as a System service (the default install)?

I am running nnCron as a service. I am running it with Run as logged on user = Off. The service is running using a service account that has administrative privs.

The cron.log file:
12:30:00 172 Start result: 0
12:35:00 1732 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
12:35:00 1732 Start result: 0
12:40:00 2060 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
12:40:00 2060 Start result: 0
13:15:00 776 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
13:15:00 776 Start result: 0
13:20:00 1760 Start: "C:\Program Files\cron\a little cron test.cmd"
13:20:00 1760 Start result: 0

Notice that the event runs at 12:40, then skips to 13:15, missing 6 events. I have setup this batch file to run every 5 minutes, writing a date and time stamp into a file.
